The Newberg Area Historical Society hosts a FREE monthly presentation focused on sharing the history of Newberg. The programs cover a variety of subjects which facilitate conversations between community members and historians.

October 24: the Newberg Area Historical Society welcomes Dr. Steve Northway one of the foremost experts on the native plants of the Willamette valley.  Dr. Northway has served as a consultant and adviser to several governmental agencies, including NASA on environmental issues as well as his primary occupation of chemical engineering.  He is well versed on the native plants traditionally used by indigenous peoples in the region and has helped the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde in their efforts to preserve this important aspect of culture.

Dr. Northway will speak on white oak savanna, one of the dominant types of environment in the Chehalem valley before the arrival of European peoples.
