TREASURES IN THE ATTIC Quilt Show, Appraisal Faire, & Vintage Market at the Yamhill Valley Heritage Center, McMinnville. The day includes a quilt show of over 100 quilts from the Yamhill County Historical Society and local quilt guilds and related presentations, antique experts giving oral evaluations (the Yamhill County Historical Society’s version of “Antiques Roadshow”), antiques and collectibles vendors, food and music. Admission is $3, free for kids 12 and under, free parking, all booths and displays undercover. Oral evaluations of vintage items $5 per item. Each quilt has a story, and YCHS will share some of those stories with these presentations:
· 11:00 and 3:30 – Bed Turning by Donna Hulett - A “bed turning” is a way of introducing quilters and non-quilters to the beauty of antique or unique quilts in an interesting and different way. Learn the history of several quilts in the YCHS collection.
· 1:00 pm Grandma Rachel’s Redwork - Explore the old-fashioned art of the 1800s style Redwork Embroidery as Grandma Rachel of Grandma's Attic explains the early origins of this form of embroidery. She will share examples and quilts from her extensive collection (1880-1930) and discuss the meaning and significance of patterns and symbols.
· 2:30 pm Isaac Singer & His Sewing Machine - Learn the true story of Isaac Singer and his sewing machine. In this fascinating glimpse into the life of Isaac Singer, Rachel Greco explores Singer's scandalous personal life, his incredible inventions, and his contributions to modern day society. Once you've heard this talk, you will view the sewing machine in a totally different light!
