Amity Public Library (Library) Yes, Amity has a little public library. No Web site, but a phone 503-835-8181 and it is located at 307 Trade Street in Amity.

Arts Alliance of Yamhill County (Art Organization) Sponsors annual events, the Art Harvest Studio Tour and the Paper Gardens Literary Contest and provides small education grants to schools as well as cash awards to high school senior art students and a college scholarship award. Does fund-raising and other special art related events.

Art Conspiracy (Art Organization) Puts on a wonderful 2 week multi-disciplinary summer arts program for children from 8 to 16 years old that alternates between the Amity and Sheridan communities. They are an example of excellence in art education and community involvement. No website, but email.

Art Harvest Studio Tour (Art Organization) Art Harvest Studio Tour is a group of Yamhill County artist who come together each year, for the past 16 years, to put on an elegant art studio tour. It is a self-directed driving tour through the beautiful Yamhill Valley Wine Country. The Tour is a program of the Arts Alliance. The website is excellent with photos of the artists work, maps. It is worth checking out.

Chehalem Cultural Center (Cultural Organization)The Chehalem Cultural Center celebrates the arts, community, education, and heritage. The Center is housed in a historic brick building that began its life in 1935 as Central Elementary School—a Depression era Public Works Administration project. Our historic building houses a fine arts gallery and exhibition hall, three multi-purpose arts classrooms, a state of the arts ceramics studio, a recording studio, four music practice rooms, and a 5,000 sq. ft. ballroom, which is available for public or private events.  Future phases will include a 250-seat theater, three additional multi-purpose meeting space/classrooms, a movement studio and a full kitchen facility. Our mission is to inspire and enrich lives by connecting community and culture.

Chemeketa Community College (College) CCC offers classes in Marion, Polk and Yamhill counties. There are online classes. In the McMinnville area if there is an interest in an arts or cultural topic and an instructor willing to teach, CCC will offer the classes. Interested in teaching or learning an art/cultural class? Dayton (Mary Gilkey) Public Library (Library) Dayton has a little Library that is connected to the Chemekita Library system No website, phone 503-864-2221 at 416 Ferry Street.

Gallery Theater (Art Organization) Season tickets, volunteer opportunities, the play season is Sept through May. There is magic theater and a great kids theater camp in July. A very active and committed community theater group with a wonder facility. Their website is bright, cheery and helpful. Take a look. See a play.

George Fox University (College) A great arts and culture resource in Newberg. The music, art, writing and performing arts departments have frequent student and faculity plays, recitals and exhibitions. There are many concerts, plays and other cultural events. The website calendar is very useful and worth checking.

George Fox University Archives The George Fox University and Northwest Yearly Meeting of Friends Archives are devoted to the collection, preservation, arrangement and provision of access to the historical materials of George Fox University and the Northwest Yearly Meeting of Friends.  They are a great resource for the history of Newberg and Yamhill County as well as local genealogy.  Contact: or 503-554-2415

Hoover-Minthorn House Museum T he Hoover-Minthorn House Museum was built in 1881, by Jesse Edwards, the Quaker founder of Newberg. It is the oldest standing home in the original Newberg township. In 1885, Dr. Henry John Minthorn, uncle and foster-father of Herbert Hoover, and his family moved to the house. Dr. Minthorn became the first superintendent of Friends Pacific Academy (forerunner of today’s George Fox University) and worked as a physician in rural Newberg. 

KLYC RADIO 1260 AM (Media) KLYC is in McMinnville and plays 'oldies'. No Website, but the station playlist can be checked out on the web.

KSLC 90.3 FM (Media) A Linfield College student run radio station that has music programming, as you might expect, to the tastes of college students.

Linfield College (College)A wonderful McMinnville resource for concerts, plays, art exhibits and many other art and cultural involvements. There are often presentations, talks and readings by reknown authors. The calendar of events on this site is excellent.

McMinnville Community Media Channel 11 & 29 (Media) Shows regarding the arts and culture are frequent. The staff is extremely helpful and encourage community members to become involved with producing shows. There are classes to learn how. The MCM schedule of shows in on the website and usually is for a month. It really is the only local TV in Yamhill County. Community media at its best. Worth checking out.

McMinnville Public Library (Library) Children's Story times, Help with Computers, special native plant program, book groups and more. Works closely with Friends of the Library to sponsor the explore Oregon Programs in January and February of each year. It is a great Library

Newberg Graphic (Media) One of the Eagle Newspaper group serving Newberg, Dundee,St Paul and eastern Yamhill County, The Newberg Graphic is a good source for arts and cultural events in the Newberg area. The Features tab on the Web site is where to look.

Newberg Area Historical Society  The Newberg Historical Society was founded in August of 2010 by George and Lucy Edmonston and is affiliated with the Newberg Downtown Coalition. Formal bylaws were adapted in 2015 and the name was changed to the Newberg Area Historical Society to include outlying areas that were not within city limits. Activities include monthly lectures on the last Tuesday of every month on local topics of historical interest. The historical society seeks to connect questions with answers and support historical efforts throughout the Newberg area. Contact:

Newberg Public Library (Library) An excellent library that offers genealogy research though HeritageQuest online and Ancestry Library. They have a book blog and books for kids blog. It is centrally located in Newberg.

News Register (Media) A third generation family owned newspaper published 3 times a week covering McMinnville and surrounding communities. A very extensive website that includes everything from news to features to a visitor's guide. Good community links and the calendar of events. This is definately a site where you can get great information.

Oregon Arts Commission (Art Organization) The OAC was established in 1967 to foster the arts in Oregon and ensure their excellence through grants which provide funding opportunities which include general operating support, project-specific support, and support for artist's professional endeavors. This is a great site worth checking out.

Oregon Cultural Trust Grants to county and tribal groups for cultural activities and priorities, helping them shape programs that increase access to culture. Grants to expand and stabilize cultural organizations throughout the state. Funding for cultural agencies to strengthen programs and support new partnerships. OCT is the major source of YCCC funding which enables us to fund arts, humanities and heritage projects and programs here in Yamhill County. Donations to OCT come back to us.

Portland Community College (College) PCC offer classes throughout the Portland area and regularily offers jewerly classes in Newberg (503-731-6642). Like Chemekita PCC is a community college that seeks to be responsive to those who want to learn. If you are in the PCC area, check out this site. If they do not have what you are looking for, maybe they will consider offering it. Worth a try.

Salem Art Association (Art Organization) SAA is dedicated to art education, art appreciation and historic preservation in Salem and surrounding communities. SAA’s School Program serves Marion, Polk and Yamhill counties. The programs are a collaborative effort between principals, artists, teachers, and parents to include the arts in our children’s basic education. If you are looking for an artist for your school or if you are an artist and want to share your art with kids (& get paid for it) check out this site.

Sheridan Public Library (Library) A wonderful facility for the Sheridan with a community room and all of the usual library programs, such as kids story time.

The Society for Creative Anachronism (Humanities) The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) events are held almost every weekend of the year. Activities can include tournaments, dancing, performances, Royal Court, arts exhibits, workshops, or a grand feast. The SCA is participatory. No one is simply a spectator. All attendees play a part in creating the atmosphere by reenacting whatever aspects of the Middle Ages and Renaissance interest them most. Some loaner costumes are available.

Willamina (Library) Children's story times, book club discusions, computer classes, and they even show Friday night movies. Willamina is great little community that believes in its library so much it is building a new library building.

Yamhill County Historical Society and Museum (Museums) A basic Web site that tells about the YC Historical Society and the Museum. There are excellent historical resources, geneology, historical photos and publications for sale at the Historical Society. The website refers to locations and phone numbers so you can do research at the museum.
